The Gorges du Tarn and the Cévennes

Between the Causses and the national park

Our region is made for lovers of the outdoors. From the campsite you step straight onto the walking trails, a hundred metres away you can swim in the Tarn, and within an hour's drive lie the Gorges du Tarn, the Causse Méjean, the Cévennes and the most beautiful caves and villages of the Lozère. For those who prefer to take the car, we have put together two day routes ourselves; these are available at reception.

Ispagnac and Florac

Ispagnac, a mile and a half away, is the first village of the Gorges du Tarn: a verdant hollow filled with fruit trees, vineyards and old stone houses, with a baker, a butcher and a small supermarket. Florac, 7 km away, lies at the foot of the Causse Méjean, where the Tarn, the Tarnon and the Mimente converge, with a large supermarket and the national park visitor centre.

Landscape

Gorges and plateaus

The Tarn has carved itself deep into the limestone here: the Gorges du Tarn, with Sainte-Enimie as its jewel and Point Sublime as its most famous viewpoint. Above lie the Causse Méjean and the Causse de Sauveterre, together with the Cévennes a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and further afield Mont Lozère and the vultures of the Gorges de la Jonte.

Culture & days out

Villages, caves and the capital

Sainte-Enimie is one of the most beautiful villages in France, with cobbled streets of Tarn stone and a seventeenth-century bridge. Aven Armand is one of the most spectacular caves in the world. In Mende, you can climb the bell tower of the cathedral and taste the croquants, and just five minutes from the campsite you can visit the source of Quézac water.
